Born in Camagüey, Cuba, Mario Salomon’s path to music began early—turning everyday objects into instruments and developing his rhythm long before stepping onto a stage. By age 18, he was already performing professionally in cabaret shows, where he immersed himself in a wide range of musical styles and began shaping his sound.
A percussionist, bandleader, and now vocalist, Salomon has built his career around Cuban and Latin music, touring and performing with multiple groups before forming his own band, Mario y su Timbeko. Known for high-energy performances and tight, rhythmic arrangements, his work reflects both his roots and his evolution as an artist.
A defining moment came in 2019, when he stepped into the role of lead singer mid-performance—singing and playing timbales simultaneously—an experience that expanded his role within the band and solidified his presence as a frontman.
Now based in the Bay Area, Salomon continues to bring the spirit of Cuban music to audiences through live performances that are vibrant, danceable, and deeply rooted in tradition. At the Fillmore Jazz Festival, he adds a dynamic Latin influence to the festival’s diverse musical landscape.
